Chris Wilcox Basketball Camp

WHITEVILLE, NC--Just days after re-signing a one-year deal with the Boston Celtics, NBA center-forward Chris Wilcox is coming home for his annual basketball camp for youth.

The week-long basketball camp is held every year in Wilcox's hometown of Whiteville, North Carolina. Held in three different locations, more than one hundred and fifty kids attend the camp every year, to hone their skills with advice from their hometown hero.

"Every year I come back and look forward to giving back to the community," said Wilcox in an interview to WWAY3, a local ABC affiliate. "And you definitely see it in these kids, because you get to see them one year, and then the next year they're totally different. It's a great feeling and it's just great to be back around."

But at this year's camp Wilcox has a lot more to talk about than just basketball. His last season with the Celtics was cut short in March when doctors discovered an enlarged aorta during a routine heart screening. Wilcox underwent surgery at the Cleveland Clinic on March 29, but was recently medically cleared to start playing basketball again. Less than two weeks later, Wilcox re-signed with the Boston Celtics.

Wilcox returned to Whiteville for the final days of camp after a quick stop in Boston to finalize the details of his contract.
